Stable junior driver Zev Meredith has been on fire over the past few days. He's bagged two winners and a third from three drives for employer Arna Donnelly.
It started on day 2 of the Manawatu meeting when he reigned home Pacing Hope. A gutsy wee mare who has now won 5 races.
"We took two nice chances to Palmy and once she found the front I thought she'd take a bit of catching" said Donnelly.
Things didn't go our way in the Manawatu Country Cup when Crusader bobbled away at the start. However, Zev took all the shortcuts and managed to dive up the fence late in the piece to snatch third.
Back at Alexandra Park on Friday and it was the ever loyal New York Minute who provided too strong in the tightly assessed pace. Donnelly was pretty chuffed with one of her stable favourites. "He's getting it right from a stand now and last night Zev put him in the race which proved the winning of it".
Donnelly was very complementary about Zev's drives. "He put a lot of thought into each and every one of them. Crusader in particular was a peach of a drive. There's no point coming wide on the bend at Palmy with a short straight".
All other runners performed with plenty of merit on the night. The team were very happy with the first up run of Kango who had to chase the whole way on a hot tempo. His time of 2.41.8 for the 2200 stand was the best of any runner in the race.
